Morecambe 2019 Match Report

MORECAMBE UPDATE – EVENT CANCELLED

Due to the ongoing wet ground conditions at Morecambe, the forecast for Friday, and a very low expected turn-out, Mike and I have agreed that tomorrows final day of the season and the associated prize presentation dinner will be cancelled and consequently the season will end here.

Sadly it’s a case of 2012 déjà vu, which is when this scenario last happened, and it is perhaps an ironic reflection of a difficult years weather endured by the Parrots in 2019.

So, please do not travel to Morecambe tomorrow, if you were intending to.

This means, of course, that despite our best efforts to depose him from the top of the leaderboard by offering the opportunity of four extra Stableford points at Morecambe, Tom Rowles is declared the winner of the Parrots Golf Society for 2019.

So, congratulations to Tom. With some great scores across the season, including a memorable 43pts at Bentham, he is a worthy winner, and his improvement is reflected in a handicap reduction of five shots over the course of the season.

A close second was Gareth Lunn, who was no doubt relishing the opportunity that Morecambe offered. In the previous four seasons, his score of 179 would have been enough to win or tie the leader, but sadly for him, it wasn’t to be this year.

In third place was myself, just pipping TJ and Pierre le Whiteside, and of course there is a prize for the highest score of the season. To add to his past years achievements in this field, this year’s prize goes once again to Trevor Middleton with his magnificent 45pts, also at Bentham.

The winners of each society day out also win a prize, and all these, together with the above prizes will be presented at the first event of 2020, or whenever we see you next thereafter (unless Mike thinks up a better idea!).

So sadly, that’s the end of the Parrots season for 2019. Well done to all the winners and a big thank you to everyone who has come along and played. I’m sure we all hope for brighter skies next year when we resume again!
