chorley report

The 13th round of the Parrots Golf Society was a rearranged trip to Chorley.

Why rearranged you may ask? - This was due to a poor decision by our organiser who decided to cancel the trip at very late notice due to the possiblity of a few drops of rain, which would obviously ruin the Society's reputation.

So against all Parrot's rules of playing on Wednesdays it was played on a Thursday the following week with a weather forecast that was not going to deliver the sunshine that this society always promises.

With a very early 9.30 am tee off arranged to play only 18 holes this was a morning specialists dream surely?

Past history of Chorley's winning scores of 37, 41 and 35 suggest a score of 35 or over could be enough.

After lengthy discussions with Mike and Glenn regarding groupings, first out were Tony and Phil, who were both quite adamant they preferred to be first out to avoid the looming 'monsoon' that Mike predicted.

Course conditions were very wet under foot with very little run on the fairways, but Phil set off like a train parring the first three holes, but then inexplicably driving out of bounds on the fourth for a blob. TJ slowly grew into the game with steady scoring, eventually ending up with a very respectable 18 points after 9 holes, 2 more than Phil.

The predicted 'monsoon' that Mike had described as being similar to a tsunami arrived after the third hole, but was reduced to light drizzle for a few holes and eventually cleared allowing for a completely dry back nine.

The two morning specialists were totally out of sight from the rest of the field, and eventually both ended up with a respectable 33 points each, Phil pipped Tony on the count back.

So were there to be any scores higher?
Sadly this was not to be the case due to the fact that only four players turned up and Phil and Tony were the only players that went out. Mike and Glenn suggested we travelled to their home territory of Fleetwood for a 1pm tee off in fine weather, but this was a ploy to use their home ground advantage and score high, and this was proved to be correct with Mike scoring 39 points but sadly for Mike cannot be counted as a society score.

Was this another poor decision by our organiser? Could he have scored 39 points at Chorley and topped the leaderboard? We will never know!!

So Frank still has a 6 point lead from Mike and Tony with one round to play.

The final game is at Morecambe in 7 days time. Rain, monsoon, tsunami, or sunshine I'm sure Mike will be playing this one.
